VISUAL ART CLASSES - TERM 1

Our term-based, after-school art classes are a fantastic way for your child to explore and enjoy art every week! Led by experienced facilitators, we explore a new theme each term through a range of mediums and techniques.

​Good to know:

• Classes are suitable for children from Prep to Year 6. 

• School-based classes run from 3.00-4.15pm (allowing time for a snack and toilet break). 

• Non school based locations (Ashgrove West Uniting Church) run from 3.30-4.30pm to allow for travel time from school.

• State School and non-school based locations (Ashgrove West Uniting Church) are open to students from any school.

• Your child is welcome to join after the term has started, just get in touch!

What we are up to in term one:

Circle Pop Magic: A Colourful Journey through Art & Imagination

​

Step into the magical world of circles, colour, and creativity in our Circle Pop Magic art class this term! Over 8 exciting weeks, young artists will explore dynamic art techniques inspired by the vibrant worlds of renowned artists, all while celebrating the fun and whimsy of circles and pops. From playful patterns to mesmerising optical illusions, each week brings a new opportunity for students to dive into hands-on projects and discover the endless possibilities of colour and form.

 

Here’s a sneak peek at the thrilling artistic adventure awaiting your child:

1. Yayoi Kusama – A Life of Circles: Inspired by the iconic Yayoi Kusama, students will immerse themselves in a world of polka dots, infinity, and repeating patterns. 

2. Tondo – Scratch Art: In this session, students will discover the ancient art of scratchboard and create their own “Tondo” (circular) designs by scratching through dark surfaces to reveal bright, colourful images beneath. 

3. Michelangelo – Fresco Painting: Step into the shoes of a Renaissance master as students learn about Michelangelo’s fresco paintings and try their hand at creating their own! 

4. Beatriz Milhazes – Colourful Collage: Bright, bold, and full of life—Beatriz Milhazes’ colourful collages serve as the inspiration for this lesson. Students will create vibrant, layered artworks using cut paper, shapes, and patterns.

5. Victor Vasarely – Optical Art: Inspired by the mesmerising work of Victor Vasarely, students will dive into the world of optical illusions, creating designs using their hands.

6. Frank Stella – Sculpture: Students will explore three-dimensional art with Frank Stella’s abstract sculptures as their guide. 

7. Di Nowinski – Scrape Paint Portrait: In this hands-on lesson, students will use paint scraping techniques to create textured, dynamic animal portraits. 

8. Culminating Project – Shadow City Under Pop Dot Sky: To wrap up this magical term, students will collaborate on a final project—a vibrant, imaginative cityscape under a sky of colourful, floating dots. 

Circle Pop Magic is not just an art class—it’s a journey through colour, form, and imagination, where students explore the world of circles and pops while creating their own unique works. With each project, they’ll develop new skills, experiment with bold ideas, and leave with a portfolio filled with exciting, playful artwork.
