What we are up to in term two:
This term we are exploring the natural elements through the lens of some very cool artists. Join us as we play with pastels, watercolour, acrylic, and collage to create different environmental phenomena. Each week will include a different artist of focus and a new project to try. Students will be expertly guided by our experienced facilitators and encouraged to develop their natural creativity.
1. Hokusai - Water - Watercolour Waves
We’re diving into watercolour waves to capture the power and movement of water! We’ll experiment with different techniques to see what magical effects we can create using this flowing medium.
2. Andy Goldsworthy - Earth - Natural Art
Let’s get creative with nature! In small groups, we’ll arrange colourful seeds, lentils, and other natural materials to design a temporary 3D masterpiece inspired by the earth around us.
3. Vincent Van Gogh - Earth - Sunflower Still Life
We’re bringing sunflowers to life in a textured still life! Using palette knives and modelling paste, we’ll mix it up with paint to create beautiful texture and form—just like Van Gogh!
4. Claude Monet - Water - Pastel Lilies
Let’s explore the calm beauty of water lilies with chalk pastels! We’ll experiment with blending different shades of pastels, letting them float across the canvas like lilies on water.
5. David Hockney - Earth - Oil Pastel Landscape
We’re creating vibrant landscapes with oil pastels, just like David Hockney! We’ll use bold colours to bring our earth-inspired scenes to life on canvas in a fun and expressive way.
6. Henri Matisse - Air - Textured Collage
We’re getting crafty with paper to create textured collages that represent the air! Inspired by Matisse’s study of organic forms, we’ll play with scale, contrast, and texture to make our own abstract creations.
7. J.M.W. Turner - Air - Cloud and Sky PaintingJ
Time to paint the sky! Using watercolours and sponges, we’ll explore the endless colours of clouds and skies, blending soft hues to capture the beauty and drama of the air above us.
8. Jackson Pollock - Fire - Drip Painting
We’re unleashing our inner fire with exciting drip paintings! Inspired by the iconic Jackson Pollock, we’ll squirt, splash, and drip paint onto the canvas, creating a fiery and abstract artwork full of energy.
